RHS Harlow Carr

RHS garden Harlow carr refurbishment 2

In 2004, Smiemans Projecten built a greenhouse for selling plants at the beautiful botanical garden 'RHS Garden Harlow Carr' in Harrogate (UK). Recently, Smiemans has been commissioned by the RHS to renovate the garden centre. It will be carried out by our local partner Ebtech Glasshouse Systems Ltd in the spring.

Climate resistance and safety for the future

At the time, it was built using only safety glass. In view of the new safety requirements for public areas, the glass on the deck will be replaced with 16 mm transparent polycarbonate. This renovation will provide a new and modern look, better insulation and therefore better climate resistance and safety for the future.

This approach will also change the internal layout. The creation of an additional covered area between the hot department and the outdoor sales area will create a better transition. As a result, this canopy will provide more comfort for shoppers.

Botanical gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society

RHS stands for the Royal Horticultural Society, a non-profit organisation established to promote gardening in the UK and beyond. This is done through plant shows and many model gardens open to the public. The Flagship botanical gardens of the RHS are Rosemoor in Devon, Hyde Hall in Essex, Harlow Carr in North Yorkshire and Wisley Garden near London.

Smiemans Projecten, which celebrates half a century this year, was previously commissioned by the RHS to build 'The Glasshouse' at Wisley Garden, which was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 2007.
