Ground-breaking ceremony WUR
Thursday 2 October 2025
1 October marked the festive start of construction of the new high-tech research centre at Wageningen University & Research in Bleiswijk. Together with main contractor Bom Group and other partners, we are helping to build this progressive complex that will shape the future of the greenhouse horticulture sector.
The total size of this project is over 8,700 m². The new reception building with upper floors has a size of 3,120 m2. It will be a multifunctional space with various meeting and work areas around a central reception hall.

Your wishes are the starting point.
The final result is a custom-made glass construction with the ideal climate.
Where every detail counts!
More than just an entrance
The new WUR reception building in Bleiswijk is one of a series of iconic entrance buildings realised by Smiemans Projecten in recent years. At the World Horti Center in Naaldwijk, for example, the glass façade forms not only a representative entrance, but also a connecting space where knowledge, innovation and nature converge. A Venlo construction was also chosen for this project, but with a height of 12.30 metres.

This glass entrance resembles that of the Agrotopia project, also designed by Van Bergen Kolpa Architects. This design team won many important design awards.
Functional, future-proof buildings
Thanks to our many years of experience with glass constructions and climate technology, we create functional, future-proof buildings. Transparency, light and sustainability lie at the heart of this approach.
This type of architecture reflects what Smiemans Projecten stands for: knowledge-driven construction with consideration for people, the environment, and innovation.
