Phase 1 Botanical Greenhouse Gothenburg

Overview construction glass building Botanical garden

First phase of botanical greenhouse in Gothenburg almost complete

The first phase of construction of the botanical greenhouse in Gothenburg is nearing completion. This phase involves the construction of the 3,216 m² botanical greenhouse and part of the greenhouses. Once completed, the special plants will be moved here and the old greenhouses will be demolished. Then the final phase will begin: the construction of the remaining greenhouses.

With a glass surface area of 5,200 m² and approximately 160,000 kilograms of steel, we are realising this high-quality project that brings together biodiversity, education and innovation, in collaboration with client VGR Fastigheter and main contractor Peab.

Designing complex glass structures

The design includes overlapping and intersecting roofs, creating complex connections where different heights meet. Each connection must fit perfectly to ensure structural integrity and watertightness. These details require expertise, precision and years of experience in complex glass structures.

Unlike a standard greenhouse construction, we work with extensive scaffolding, both outside and inside. This allows different teams to carry out their tasks safely and efficiently, even at great heights and in tight corners.

Building unique botanical greenhouses

In recent years, our team has completed several remarkable projects for leading institutions such as RHS Garden Wisley, Flora Köln, Inverewe Garden, Hortus Botanicus Leiden and the Bayan Botanical Garden in Kuwait.

Each project presents its own technical and creative challenges, from integrating different roof styles and varying heights to maintaining multiple climate zones under one structure.

These greenhouses require precision engineering, coordination between specialists and a deep understanding of the interaction between plants, people and the climate. It demands a lot from everyone involved, but the result is worth it: inspiring spaces where nature and knowledge come together.
