Educational greenhouse at PTI Kortrijk nearing completion
The educational greenhouse structure at PTI Kortrijk is nearing completion. Smiemans Projecten is currently carrying out the final works on the sustainable and functional atrium for the new Campus Science & Green. The installation of the doors is one of the last steps before the building can be put into use.
On 30 April and 1 May, PTI Kortrijk already gave future students a first preview of the atrium during the school’s open days. From the new academic year onwards, face-to-face lessons will take place in the greenhouse. This will give students a learning environment that is closely connected to practice, nature, technology and sustainability.
Glass structure for education, research and innovation
More and more schools, universities, botanical gardens and research institutes are choosing glass structures to support education, research and innovation. Glass architecture offers a unique combination of natural daylight, climate control, flexibility and long-term performance. These qualities make it suitable for learning environments where students, teachers and researchers need more than a standard classroom.
Future-ready learning environment for Campus Science & Green
At PTI Kortrijk, the greenhouse structure will create a bright and inspiring environment for education in green knowledge, science and sustainable cultivation. Natural daylight supports a healthy indoor climate and creates a pleasant atmosphere for students and staff. At the same time, the building provides opportunities for practical education, plant-related learning and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Educational glass structures can be used in many different ways: as teaching spaces, research facilities, innovation centres, botanical environments or demonstration areas for sustainable cultivation. The combination of transparency, climate control and flexible layout makes them highly suitable for institutions that want to connect theory with practice.
Broad educational, botanical and research portfolio
For Smiemans Projecten, Campus Science & Green fits within a broader portfolio of educational, botanical and research-related glass structures. Our experience includes projects such as Campus Riedberg for Goethe University, World Horti Center, RHS Garden Wisley, Botanical Garden Inverewe and now Campus Science & Green at PTI Kortrijk.
Each of these projects has its own purpose, scale and technical requirements. What they have in common is the need for a future-ready environment: functional, sustainable, adaptable and built to support learning, research and innovation for many years.
With the completion of the greenhouse structure in sight, PTI Kortrijk is preparing for a new educational environment where students can learn, discover and develop practical knowledge in a building designed for the future.
