Iceland's largest garden centre opened
Monday 15 April 2024
Friday 12 April was the official opening of the new garden centre in Reykjavik.
On a once rugged 3-hectare volcanic site, Smiemans built this climate-proof 7,250 m2 garden centre, which was recently opened for the Gardheimar family. Designed in collaboration with PK Arkitektar, the centre has a biophilic design that perfectly matches the company's ethos. Notable features include large, heat-resistant windows at the front, a green roof, vertical wooden blinds and an architecturally striking façade with continuous awnings.
Experiences, greenery and retail
Located in the bustling Reykjavík region, which is home to most of Iceland's population, the new 7,250 m² garden centre is impressive not only in size, but also in its response to the growing urban demand for experiences, greenery and retail in this rapidly developing area.
Solid construction and innovative design
The Icelandic climate is characterised by rapidly changing weather conditions. Cool, cloudy summers and cold, snowy winters are common. Thanks to its solid construction and innovative design, however, this garden centre is optimally prepared for these conditions, offering an attractive destination for both locals and visitors.
Thanks to its central location, wide range of products and high-quality architecture, the centre reinforces its position as a leading destination for gardening and outdoor living in the region, while also contributing to the strengthening of Iceland's urban infrastructure and retail sector.
